HISTORY


Umag used to be an island. It was first time mentioned in 7th century. Before Umag there was a small town Sipar. It was destroyed in 9th century and that Umag divided and started to develope. In 8th century Franks dominated in Umag, but in 1269. Umag got under Venetian rule. In 1370. Umag was destructed by Genova. After the fall of Venetia and Napoleon, Austrians dominated in Umag. Umag was developing in that time until the World War I, when Italy and later Germans occupied it. In 1954. Umag was adjoined to Croatia which was part of Yugoslavia, but became Independent Republic of Croatia in 1991.

LOCATION AND CLIMATE


Umag (peninsula Istria, Croatia) is a small town situated on west coast of Istria, 10 km far from the border with Slovenia. Umag is after Savudrija westernmost point of Croatia. Umag is consisted of 23 settlements. Umag was founded on the foundations of Roman archeological remains. Umag is situated between Kator and Novigrad. Climate is Mediterranean mixed with Alpine, with around 2400 sunny hours a year. Climate is great for people with lung problems.
